The measure passed 66-32, with 16 Democrats supporting the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic concerns over corruption and politicians\u2019 ties to cryptocurrency firms made the bipartisan move controversial. After the vote was finished, Colorado Senator Michael Bennet introduced the STABLE GENIUS Act. The bill would prevent members of Congress from issuing or investing in digital currency and require them to put their crypto in a blind trust while in office.<\/p>\n<p>Bills to prevent members of Congress from investing in companies they regulate have had little success. However, lawmakers are still required to disclose rough estimations of their, their spouse\u2019s and their children\u2019s investments. Here are 11 US senators who have invested in crypto firms.<\/p>\n<h2>Montana<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Tim Sheehy, Republican<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tim Sheehy is a newcomer to the Senate, first securing his election in the 2024 cycle. In his campaign, Sheehy contrasted himself against his opponent, former Senator Jon Tester, <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSheehyMT\/status\/1797791999464235320\" title=\"null\">stating<\/a>, \u201cCrypto represents the future of finance and the internet, and thousands of jobs for America.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-05\/0196f2f2-a698-70cf-932c-93bf166088c8\" title=\"\" alt=\"Which senators invest in crypto? 11 lawmakers have blockchain-related investments\" \/><figcaption><em>Source: <\/em><a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheehy.senate.gov\/\" title=\"null\"><em>US Senate<\/em><\/a><br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Investments: <\/strong>According to a June 2024 <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/efdsearch.senate.gov\/search\/view\/annual\/7b939d3b-ce20-4658-a54a-0ba6f17fabe3\/\" title=\"null\">filing<\/a>, Sheehy has an investment between $1,001 and $15,000 in Intercontinental Exchange, which offers futures contracts on cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Daines, Republican<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Steve Daines has been in the US Senate for 10 years, assuming office in 2015. In recent years, he has become a proponent of the crypto industry, <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveDaines\/status\/1481287994292248581\" title=\"null\">rubbing<\/a> elbows with industry bigwigs like Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) evangelist and Strategy CEO Michael Saylor and <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveDaines\/status\/1572372865516769280\" title=\"null\">receiving<\/a> a Digital Future Award from the Crypto Council for Innovation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-05\/0196f2f2-ab5d-7127-8f27-72a0f3429458\" title=\"\" alt=\"Which senators invest in crypto? 11 lawmakers have blockchain-related investments\" \/><figcaption><em>Daines (right) receives a crypto industry award. Before assuming office, Mullin <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenMullin\/status\/1539266752667844609\" title=\"null\">lauded<\/a> crypto as a potential retirement investment and said his state could <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenMullin\/status\/1545065604075462657\" title=\"null\">offer<\/a> Bitcoin miners favorable terms. While in office, Tuberville has come out in support of crypto. In April 2025, he <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenTuberville\/status\/1906886550174286089\" title=\"null\">introduced<\/a> a bill letting Americans put crypto in their retirement funds. While campaigning, she <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KatieBrittforAL\/status\/1463324880846442497\" title=\"null\">accepted<\/a> donations in cryptocurrency from donors. While on the campaign trail and in the Senate, Moreno called for more favorable regulations for the industry. During her tenure, she <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5S3zEhLE6Y\" title=\"null\">raised<\/a> concerns about how cryptocurrencies could be used for terrorism financing. Bush, is a first-term senator, getting elected in 2024. While campaigning, McCormick <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DaveMcCormickPA\/status\/1804256085726871702\" title=\"null\">boosted<\/a> his state\u2019s Bitcoin mining industry. In the last several years, he has <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWhitehouse\/status\/1877481864379695265\" title=\"null\">raised<\/a> concerns over the energy consumption of Bitcoin mining, as well as the potential for Russia to <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWhitehouse\/status\/1583126260565565442\" title=\"null\">use<\/a> crypto to evade US sanctions. All investments are between $1,001 and $15,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This list is not exhaustive; there are plenty of companies in which lawmakers invest that are affected by cryptocurrency price movements and market effects.
