The United Kingdom\u2019s Treasury and Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, have proposed new crypto rules aimed at \u201csupport[ing] innovation while cracking down on fraudsters.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an April 29 notice, the UK government announced<\/a> draft rules for cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) and Ether (ETH<\/a>), that would bring \u201ccrypto exchanges, dealers and agents\u201d in line with regulations, as many residents were \u201cexposed to risky firms and scams.\u201d It cited discussions with US government officials, including a proposed US-UK cross-border sandbox<\/a> from the Securities and Exchange Commission\u2019s Hester Peirce.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s announcement sends a clear signal: Britain is open for business \u2014 but closed to fraud, abuse, and instability,\u201d said the notice. \u201cThe government will bring forward final cryptoasset legislation at the earliest opportunity, following engagement on the draft provisions with industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
