Earlier this week, Bitcoin mining giant Hut 8 revealed a partnership<\/a> that includes two members of the Trump family \u2014 Donald Jr. and Eric \u2014 and its plans to launch a new mining venture, American Bitcoin.\u00a0<\/p>\n In an exclusive interview on Decentralize with Cointelegraph\u2019s <\/em>Byte-Sized Insight series, Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot shared new details about the venture\u2019s vision, why the timing was right and how the company plans to scale.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve thought about splitting out our Bitcoin mining and energy infrastructure businesses for some time,\u201d Genoot said. \u201cMeeting Eric and Don Jr., and seeing their deep passion for Bitcoin and infrastructure, was the perfect catalyst.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Genoot, the goal is clear: to build one of the world\u2019s largest and most efficient Bitcoin mining platforms, rooted in American soil and aligned with pro-Bitcoin sentiment growing under President Donald Trump\u2019s administration. \u201cEric told me, \u2018I don\u2019t want to get involved in anything that isn\u2019t the biggest and the best,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The move comes at a pivotal moment for US-based mining. With China out of the picture post-2021 crackdown, and Washington now openly exploring the idea of a strategic Bitcoin reserve, America\u2019s place in the global mining ecosystem is under transformation.<\/p>\n Still, size isn\u2019t everything. Genoot emphasized that efficiency and cost-effectiveness are core to the strategy.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u201cWe don\u2019t want to just be the biggest. We want to be the most efficient and cost-effective miner. If our cost basis isn\u2019t low, we might as well just buy Bitcoin.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Related: <\/strong><\/em>Bitcoin miner Hut 8 argues to toss \u2018short and distort\u2019 shareholder suit<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n American Bitcoin\u2019s structure allows it to mine BTC at low cost, accumulate more when the market allows, and potentially expand into other Bitcoin ecosystem services. Hut 8 currently holds over 10,000 BTC on its balance sheet, worth up to $1 billion depending on market conditions. American Bitcoin aims to surpass that.<\/p>\n And the company isn\u2019t just bullish on Bitcoin; it\u2019s bullish on power consumption. Genoot pushed back on criticism that mining wastes energy:\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cPower consumption has only increased with every tech revolution. Cheap, excess energy is what drives Bitcoin mining \u2014 and a lot of that energy is renewable.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Looking ahead, Hut 8\u2019s mining spinoff has big ambitions. \u201cOur focus is scaling.
